چکیده

This study reports the first-ever detrital zircon provenance investigation of sandstones Kamlial Formation, exposed in Kashmir Basin along Kohala–Bagh road section (Muzaffarabad, Pakistan). Analysis probability density plots U-Pb ages displayed a major age population clustered around ?400–1200 Ma and minor ?1600–1900 Ma. In addition, scattered existed between ?2000 3000 pattern resembled strongly Himalayan sources, including Tethys Himalaya, Greater/Higher Lesser Himalaya. The younger (<150 Ma) present studied samples indicated Asian provenance. component (?166–1900 was more pronounced 2015KM03 2015KM04 samples, representing middle to upper portion formation. recycled orogen Formation as deduced from sandstone petrography supports mixed Considering provenance, we propose tectonic model that suggests large-scale exhumation occurred Himalaya result Panjal thrust activation during 25–14 (age Formation), which uplifted hinterland zone acted source area fed foreland basin, where deposited.

NEOGENE TECTONIC EVOLUTION OF THE MAGDALENA SHELF AND SOUTHERN GULF OF CALIFORNIA: INSIGHTS FROM DETRITAL ZIRCON U-Pb AGES FROM THE MAGDALENA FAN AND ADJACENT AREAS

The Magdalena fan is an apparently beheaded submarine depocenter that has figured prominently in Middle to late Miocene reconstructions of Pacific-North American plate interactions. The deposit accumulated rapidly at the base of the continental slope atop newly formed oceanic crust of the Farallon plate from 14.5-13 Ma. Subduction of this crust ceased as the Pacific-Farallon spreading center en...

DETRITAL ZIRCON U/Pb AGE DETERMINATION: UNDERSTANDING THE PROVENANCE OF THE LATE- CRETACEOUS SHUMAGIN FORMATION, ALASKA

The Chugach-Prince William (CPW) terrane is an Upper Cretaceous to Eocene accretionary complex exposed for ~2200 km in southern Alaska, extending from Baranof Island in the east to Sanak Island in the west. One of the thickest subduction-related accretionary complexes in the world, the CPW terrane is composed of deep-water flysch and associated volcanic rocks and is intruded by near-trench plut...

New ideas on the Proterozoic-Early Palaeozoic evolution of NW Iberia: insights from U–Pb detrital zircon ages

U–Pb ages were obtained on single detrital zircon grains separated from six samples of Neoproterozoic and Lower Palaeozoic sedimentary and volcanosedimentary rocks from NW Iberia using the laser ablation microprobe-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LAM-ICP-MS) method. Precambrian greywackes yielded abundant zircons with Neoproterozoic (800–640 Ma) and Mesoproterozoic (0.9–1.2 Ga) ag...

Zircon U-Pb geochronology of the Ottawan Orogeny, Adirondack Highlands, New York: regional and tectonic implications

Both single and multigrain U-Pb zircon thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) as well as sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP ll) dating of two suites of Adirondack granites have yielded ages constraining the principal tectonomagmatic events of the Ottawan Orogeny to the interval ca 1090–1035 Ma. The earliest of these consists of mildly A-type hornblende granites of the Hawkeye...

U/Pb and Pb/Pb zircon ages from granitoid rocks of Wallagga area: constraints on magmatic and tectonic evolution of Precambrian rocks of western Ethiopia

The Precambrian rocks in western Ethiopia consist of highand low-grade terranes intruded by granitoids with a wide compositional spectrum. The formation ages of these granitoid rocks are, so far, poorly understood. Single-grain zircon Pb/Pb evaporation and conventional U/Pb dating conducted on four granitoids places time constraints on their emplacement and tectonothermal events. Three granitoi...
